Key Qualifications

John Gruendler has over 35 years experience in bridge design, construction, inspection, evaluation, rehabilitation, and maintenance. 

John is experienced in highway engineering and the design of marine and other transportation-related structures. John has also designed a variety of building structures including industrial, commercial, and governmental facilities. His designs have incorporated many types of construction materials including steel, cast-in-place concrete, pre-stressed concrete, tilt-up concrete, wood, light gage steel, and a variety of foundation types. 

John’s current responsibilities include structural design; preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates; project management and scheduling; and quality control. 

Prior to joining Structures Inc., John was vice president, lead structural engineer, and senior manager of the bridge group in the St. Louis office of a prominent international transportation design firm. John also served as a bridge engineer for the St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic where he was responsible for the annual inspection of over 300 vehicular, railroad, and pedestrian bridges; project management for federally funded bridge projects; review of structural plans prepared by consultants; and design and preparation of plans for in-house bridge projects.

John has authored and presented several papers on seismic design, prioritization, and retrofitting of bridge structures.

Key Qualifications

Roy Jennings has over 24 years of experience in the construction industry working in multiple facets of construction. He began his career with over a decade in the field as a carpenter. Roy continued his studies in school to complete a degree in structural engineering. Then, as a subcontractor he has designed, bid, and been responsible for project management for innumerable projects. As a structural engineer he has also designed, bid, and been responsible for project management. Roy has designed many new buildings ranging from strip malls and box warehouses to casinos, courthouses, and up to 8-story hotel and office buildings. Roy also has experience in providing design solutions for many types of retrofit projects.  

His designs have included many types of building materials including steel, cast-in-place concrete, pre-cast concrete, post-tensioned concrete, tilt-up concrete, masonry, wood, and light gage steel. Many of these designs have been for commercial, industrial, governmental, retail, and office facilities located in high seismic zones, hurricane zones, and heavy snow regions. 

Roy uses his experience to design projects, regardless of the type of structure or the building material used, to be the most cost effective and constructible design possible. He also has an extensive knowledge of deep foundation and earth retention systems. He has been a presenter at many seminars and has also co-written a paper that was published by DFI.

Roy’s current responsibilities include field inspections, cost estimates, project management, structural design, and preparation of plans and specifications.
